Blogbug, we don’t want your spyware kthx.

There are some pretty dodgy sites out there, and once in a while someone tries their luck and adds a blog that breaks our TOS, thinking it’ll slip through the net. One such user recently added a blog containing both pornography and spyware, hosted at a very seedy blog host called BlogBug (dot org).
Of course, we removed the blog and banned the account, but a quick look at the host itself showed that this blog host is filled with nasties, and no self respecting blogger would use them - so we’re issuing a site-wide ban on blogbug blogs, and any other host that throws up a red flag.
Self hosted, wordpress, blogger and typepad (etc..) users will be unaffected, but we have to take a hard line against this stuff to keep our content safe for our members.
Aside from the core team of admins and moderators, we also have a bunch of users who alert us to any TOS violation, so spammers, don’t waste your time - we get a real kick out of banning you. :)
Coming soon, the ability to flag users, blogs and individual posts, but for now.. here’s a reminder of our submission guidelines…
- No Spam Blogs scraper sites or anything without original content
- No offensive content hate speech, racism or excessive language
- No pornography or anything promoting drugs, pharmacueticals, or illegal activity.
- No Copyright Infringement - You must own the blog and the content, or have permission to submit it
- No Pop-ups or intrusive banners - a few ads are OK, just don’t go over the top.
I did actually see the blog you referred to in this post, I went there and was disgusted by the massive ads at the start. Firefox 3.0 actually blocked one of the iFrames thanks to the new phishing protection. That was enough for me to rate the blog down.
Yep, not good. You’ll be able to flag this stuff soon.
